Janie Jasin's Response to Being Voted Best Speaker by Minnesota Meetings and Events Advisory Board delivered at the Minnesota Meetings and Events Celebration & Toasting Night Dear Advisory Board Voters, In a long and fulfilling speaking career, I have run the race to meetings, events, hotels, conferences, seminars, forums and celebrations. As a young woman I had two talents. I could speak and write, yet in the "Olden Days" there were no openings for those talents. Not wanting to teach and not being "really good " at art, I opted for marriage. Three children and moves involving Wisconsin, Virginia, Illinois and Minnesota with a corporate husband, I ended up here. At General Mills my first taste of meetings was a lure. I loved meetings, chairs, presenting, scripts, and one-liners and off-the-cuff humor to get folks back on track. A career at Dale Carnegie courses followed. More chairs, motivation, learning and people led me to discover my own frailties. After treatment for alcoholism at 36, I bloomed in a career led by a Higher Power, bookings by a Higher Power and audiences everywhere. Your vote is so appreciated by me. I still love chairs, meetings, events, people and audiences. After 9/11/2001, we all met in different venues. We loved our neighbors, friends and colleagues. We prayed for peace in a new way, looked in gratitude for the enormous blessings our America allowed us to create and survive in business. With new caring, I bless and annoint the young meeting makers and creators with my spirit. There is nothing quite like an event where folks rub shoulders, shake hands, bend over tables and hash things out to set new ideas in motion. We need new ideas. We need to make new stuff, sell new stuff, get excited about what can be and forget about what isn't anymore. So for all of us, who stand and speak, create a smile, set an environment and atmosphere of comfort for learning, I lift my glass with you this evening. I thank you for all of the National Speakers Association members, for all of the MPI members and for all who write scripts, light rooms, set up sound, book speakers and also for all of those three million people who sat in my audiences for the last 27 years and allowed me to work in their presence.
