The Littlest Christmas Tree - A Tale of Growing and Becoming
view the planting ceremony of the Littlest Christmas Tree
on Oct. 21, 2001
The Littlest Christmas Tree longs to be chosen
to be part of a celebration of lights and life. While
she is waiting she begins to see clearly what she
is appreciative and grateful for.
She sees the sun,
the rain, the wind and the sky and acknowledges
their presence yet underneath it all she seeks more.
She looks for alternatives and listens to the elders tell
of growing on and all that it entails (being trimmed
and shaped and having patience while growing).
The tree is like us! Family values are clearly shown
as she listens.
The story was inspired by a real seedling growing in
Wautoma, Wisconsin--also called the Christmas Tree
Capital of the World. The tree was named by
Allison Talbot at age eight. She named it
Christmas Glory or Gloria for short.
The author penned the story while in
Wisconsin and wrote it as a thank you
to her clients.
Although it was written for grown ups, children 3-83
love it. It has become a Christmas Classic.
The grown up message is disguised in a child like way.
*A song with lyrics has been recorded along
with the author reading the story on CD.
* A play has been developed and is "School Friendly."
*A discussion guide is available for families.
Midwest Book Review
"The Littlest Christmas Tree is a book for the entire family to read together, inspiring children impatient to be grown up, and to remind adults who may have forgetten childhood pleasures.
The Littlest Christmas Tree provides a gentle, simple, and compelling message which invites readers of all ages to pause and reflect on the beauty and promise of today, and to embrace the possibilities of tomorrow. Pam Kurtz's beautiful artwork pefectly complements Janie Jasin's imaginative and well-crafted story."
"This book is for folks 3 to 83. It is a faith-filled story of growing and acceptance and was written for adults originally. It contains a serenity message as well." --
Janie Jasin

A simple book with a complex message
Review by Stephanie Bowen
"This simply written children's book is anything but simple.
It's not only the tale of a young tree seedling
growing into a tall and strong grownup tree, but the
story of a world of possibilities all woven together
through the belief of an almighty creator."
"It's a simply written book with a complex message that will be enjoyed more upon reflection than at first glance."
"Jasin introduces faith in a way that is not intimidating and all-encompassing. She uses the story of a seedling starting to grow to express that a foundation of faith can enable a strong and healthy development in life."
"Enhancing the words of 'The Littlest Christmas Tree' are vibrant illustrations that are sure to capture the hearts of the child in your life. It's hard to believe this is the illustrator's first children's book. Her drawings are filled with birds and flowers and cats and dogs -- the things that captivate kids. There are wonderful scenes of the majestic forest and the cozy living room. While the title and illustrations suggest that this book should be read at Christmas time (indeed, it would be a lovely family tradition), it can be appreciated anytime of the year."
