At Last! The Littlest Christmas Tree has found a home.

Peter Grimm's Tree Farm west of Wautoma Wisconsin on Highway #21 is preparing a spot where folks can visit, take pictures, shop for trees, flowers and plants and breathe in the scent of the pines and see the magic of the forest.

A celebration is being planned and we would like you to be a part of this joyous occasion. FREE and OPEN TO THE PUBLIC on October 20th, 2001 11:00 AM.

The Littlest Christmas Tree book has sold one million copies nation wide and was inspired by a real Wautoma Christmas Tree nearly 6 years ago. Since this little story of gratitude, acceptance and family values is The Serenity Prayer in action. The message is simple yet the meaning is complex.

We would like you to be an integral part of this celebration. We have lots of ideas. This little tree was named Christmas Glory or "Gloria" for short by Allison Talbot of Brookfield WI. Pat Keliher's grand daughter. The Littlest Christmas Tree now plants her roots permanently. I'll be calling you soon to see if you will lend us your gifts to this precious event. With love & appreciation for your time and awesome commitment to our community,

Janie Jasin

ORDER! ORDER! PLEASE STAY IN ORDER WHILE I TAKE YOUR ORDER!
By Janie Jasin

It is always an adventure when taking a sweet 86 year old Aunt out for lunch. I picked up my Aunt Em in Oshkosh last week on Wednesday. She would stay with me at the lake for a winter's "Time Out" and so it was that we were starting out from her senior housing apartment and heading west to Wautoma to a little town further on.

We motored west on an unknown road to her, but I was certain it would end up in the town where I was headed. Aunt Em wasn't sure about ninth Street going all the way to this town but with a few sways in the road we saw the sign and nose dived down a bit south and there we were. A small town with population five thousand and a few more.

A small restaurant on the river looked inviting. We entered the parking lot covered with ice and snow and I dropped Aunt Em off and then parked. Funny how all of those years when I had a man dropping me off in high heels I took it for granted while he parked, but now I am the dropper offer and the parker. Times change!

A young hostess spoke as we entered and said, "Hello! Smoking or non smoking?" We replied. "Non smoking near the water please." A grunt came from a man nearby who said. "There is no water. It's frozen." Guess he didn't know I am a water lover even when the H2O is in another form. We were shown to a booth, sat down and were shown the menus.

Being hungry and chilled and it was now 2:00 P.M. I said to the waitress, "Do you have soup?" She answered. "We have cream of mushroom and chicken noodle and I'll give you a minute to look at the menus. She returned. "Have you decided"? she asked. "Yes" said Aunt Em. "I'll have the Monte Carlo." The waitress asked, "Do you want fries or chips with that?" Em said. "Could I have the mushroom soup instead?" and I chimed in "I want soup instead too."

"WAIT" said the waitress. "I'll do one order and then I'll do another order. I almost said, "Oh my soul and my Lord, I'm sorry to be out of order with my soup," but I didn't. I just smirked inside and Aunt Em finished her order. Then it was my turn and I ordered the Turkey Club and asked if I could skip the fries and have the soup instead. The waitress said "Yes" and went off to the kitchen.

I didn't know that I had to follow parliamentary procedure for ordering. Aunt Em and I kind of shrugged our shoulders and made faces to each other and said we didn't know the rules of the restaurant and we would behave better and in order next time.

We were two cute women out on the town and we were fun and in good spirits. Our waitress had been shorted on training on how to enjoy the customers and their senses of humor. She was trained only on the correct order. We were such fun and she missed us. Her tip was left with an exact 15% and certainly nothing extra.

What is it with beautiful, strong, young employees not having fun at work and being so tired? Is training missing the vital people interaction skill in pleasantness and courtesy? Was training simply about taking the order in order?

I remember a very wonderful new hardware store was built near our home where the employees hid in the back room wearing their orange and blue vests and talked about their breaks and at a supermarket I overheard. "Are you going on break"? "No, I'm going on break at 2:30." "Oh, I didn't get a break till noon so you can go on your break at 1:00."

GIVE US ALL A BREAK!

I recently discovered The Ten Business Commandments in a leather bound book dated 1919.

The First One Is:

Thou shalt not wait for something to turn up, but thou shalt pull off thy coat and go to work, that thou mayest prosper in thine affairs and make the word "Failure" spell success.
